Lionsgate made an unusual move by not only confirming the development of "Saw XI" but also setting a firm release date simultaneously. Scheduled to premiere just under a year after "Saw X," "Saw XI" is slated to hit theaters on September 27th, 2024.

About the Movie

"Saw X" is the tenth installment in the iconic "Saw" horror film series. Directed and edited by Kevin Greutert and written by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, the movie serves as both a direct sequel to the original "Saw" film and a prequel to "Saw II." Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith reprise their roles from previous films, joined by Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Renata Vaca, and Michael Beach in new roles.

The plot follows John Kramer (played by Tobin Bell), also known as the Jigsaw Killer, as he travels to Mexico seeking an experimental cure for his terminal cancer. However, he discovers that the operation is a scam, leading him to kidnap those responsible and subject them to his trademark death traps as retribution.

Development of the film was confirmed in April 2021, with writers Stolberg and Goldfinger announcing the completion of the script in December 2021. Greutert, known for his work on previous installments of the series, was confirmed as the director. Filming took place in Mexico City from October 2022 to February 2023.

"Saw X" was theatrically released by Lionsgate Films on September 29, 2023, grossing $111 million worldwide. It received generally positive reviews from critics, becoming the best-reviewed film in the "Saw" franchise. A sequel, "Saw XI," is scheduled for release in September 2024.

Cast of the Movie

The mid-credits scene in "Saw X" teased potential returning characters for the next installment of the franchise. Tobin Bell's return as John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw, seems likely, whether through flashback sequences or another storyline set before his character's death. Additionally, Costas Mandylor reprised his role as Mark Hoffman, one of Jigsaw's apprentices, in "Saw X," suggesting the possibility of his return in "Saw XI." Shawnee Smith also returned as Amanda, another key character in the series, raising the possibility of her appearance in the next film as well.
