Releasing date of the movie


Originally planned as a single film, "Wicked" was divided into two parts in April 2022. The first installment, simply titled "Wicked," is set to hit theaters, including IMAX and Dolby Cinema venues, on November 27, 2024, distributed by Universal Pictures. Initially slated for a December 25, 2024 release, the date was moved up to avoid competition with "Avatar 3" and "Sonic the Hedgehog 3." Later, "Avatar 3" was postponed to 2025, making way for "Thunderbolts" and subsequently "Mufasa: The Lion King" to take its slot.




Cast of the movie



In addition to the main cast, Aaron Teoh will portray Fiyero's friend Averic, Grecia de la Paz will take on the role of Gilligan, and Colin Michael Carmichael will play Professor Nikidik, a faculty member at Shiz University. Adam James joins the cast as Galinda's father, a new character introduced for this film. Furthermore, the beloved character Dorothy Gale, along with her faithful dog Toto, will also make an appearance in the story.

Ariana Grande delighted fans with a cryptic Instagram post on January 25, 2023, confirming the completion of her filming for the Wicked movies. Captioned "Like a handprint on my heart," Grande's post, featuring her silhouette as Glinda on set, hinted at the emotional journey she experienced while working on the project, evoking the iconic song "For Good" from the musical.

Universal Pictures sought a musical maestro to steer their long-awaited adaptation, and they found their match in Jon M. Chu, known for directing the cinematic version of Lin-Manuel Miranda's "In the Heights" and serving as executive producer for "Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration." When original director Stephen Daldry (known for "The Reader") stepped aside, Chu confidently stepped into the director's chair, ready to bring his unique vision to the beloved tale.
